Comet Buy Now Pay 6 Month Later Agreement

The main question i need to know the answer to is - If you purchase something on a buy now pay in 6 months agreement, should the balance be showing on the account and what you have purchased etc even though it is not yet due or does it all of a sudden show up on the account on the day it is due? Explanation below....

I took out a buy now pay 6 month later agreement on a laptop from Comet, from my reckoning it was around the beginning to mid August this year. The price was £679.99 - plus there was an admin fee of £15 added on in order for me to be able to have the BNPL agreement. I passed the checks and everything was fine, I paid a deposit of £200 on that day so i now owe around £500, and I took the laptop home with me.

It is now October and having received nothing in the post from Comet in relation to the agreement or any documentation I thought I would give them a call to check when my balance is due as I intend to pay it off in full before the 6 months is up so i dont get charged the ridiculous amount of interest. Previous to this I had a member of the Comet staff come out to me asking me to sign some paperwork as it had got lost... this was what i already signed in the store on the day...

So i call GE Capital and explain the situation that i have never received the Edge Card i was told i would be receiving nor had i received any paper work or statements in relation to my account but i just wanted to check my balance and when it is due to be paid.
I was told by not 1 but 4 people that my account balance is nil... to my huge suprise... i explain to one of the reps on the phone that i have only paid £200 off the laptop and owe more. He asks me to confirm that i have the laptop already, i confirm and he simply said my balance is nil and that "it is good for me" and laughed.

So now I am wondering how to proceed... I have basically been told that i have got to pay nothing. Sounds like a mistake somewhere but obviously when i call up to make a payment i cant as they are telling me i have nothing to pay.... but i dont want to not pay and then have a letter telling me i have been charged shed loads of interest for not paying...

Help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

  • I have just spoken to the director at my work place and he has given me a booklet on where to write to to obtain a copy of my credit file.
Do you know if you can view it online any where and will it show any outstanding debts that i have or just if i have any CCJs etc?
