Already posted this on the DIY forum but got no response so far, and I wondred if any of you very clever ladies have any ideas to help me please?
I have a 1970's solid oak sofa and armchair which I am loathe to part with because it's size is ideal in our living room and it is solid and well made...BUT...it is VERY uncomfortable! The frame is as I said, solid oak, with webbed seat bases and deep foam square cushions form the seats and back rests (if you see what I mean).
I have replaced the foam 2 or 3 times, but within a short while it gets to being uncomfy again and the family are moaning like mad for a soft, squishy new one. Trouble is I like to look of the one we have, and all that is really wrong is the cushions - can anyone suggest a way of replacing these with something other than block foam please? I'd like not to spend too much money, but the issue is comfort rather than cost, and I can see us ending up spending the price of a new replacement if I can't find a way to make this one family sprawl friendly.
Any advice very welcome

I don't know if it'll work but what about sticking some wadding on top of the foam, that may make it softer. It's hard to explain what I mean but something like this stuff (near the bottom of the page):

Hi, i`ve asked my brother in law who works in an upholstery factory and he said, maybe try to replace the webbing because it might have gone slack over the years or instead of webbing try replacing it with springs, that will give the suite more bounce. He said also that putting that wadding in as well will help.
Hope that helps.

When our sofa got old and uncomfy, we put a big duvet over it, that made it nice n squishy
