My local Tesco was selling off massives packs of Jersey Royals for 50p - so I bought 4 - now I haven't a clue what I can do with them - I can saute them, boil them, but is there anything I can do by way of doing something to them and freezing them? I don't want to waste them but I'm starting to feel that bargain maybe wasn't such a good deal if I have to throw them out - they're use by today and are in the fridge - many thanks for any suggestions! Uncooked and kept in the bottom of the fridge they should keep for ages yet. I know that the vitamin content decreases in veg as it gets older but I've had potatoes in the salad drawer in the fridge for weeks with no sprouting.Just run, run and keep on running!0

Ignore the use-by date, that's only for decoration!

Hi alyth,
Like others have said potatoes usually last well past their sell by date. If you wan't to freeze them you can, but only if they're cooked first. There are some nice looking recipes on this website. www.jerseyroyals.co.uk

I luuuuuurve Jersey Royals and managed to pick up 2 pre-packs of them reduced to 20p each at the weekend. Am trying to do a meal plan for the next little while and need to work them into it somehow. Other than the obvious option (boiled with butter and served as an accompaniment to meat or fish with a green vegetable) what else are they good for? Ideally, one of the things I'm looking for is some sort of potato salad that's a full meal in itself and keeps for 2 or 3 days after making so I can make up a small batch and take it work for my lunch a couple of times this week. Will also probably need to provide some picnic dishes for this Saturday.
I'm sure there was a thread on this recently, but I can't find it
TIA

I have two bags of Jersey Royals I bought cheap too! I love them, especially boiled with sliced spring onions, cherry tomatoes, mayonnaise and bacon bits...mmm
Any other recipes would be gratefully received though as I am also running out of ideas as to what to do with them...“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

What's to do with them but boil them until cooked, and then enjoy with a bit of butter on top. Mmm a meal in it's self.
I always scrape them and put in the fridge in cold water and use as and when required. If you change the water everyday they will keep for ages.
I also have done this with 'ordinary spuds' for years .I usually have a half hours peeling session once a week and put the peeled spuds in the fridge in cold water.Saves a lot of time peeling spuds every night ,boring job ,but once a week means that when you come home from work or wherever there's always spuds ready to cook and eat.0 -
Something I haven't done for ages is fried sliced cooked new potatoes. Does make sense honest. We'd have new potatoes one day....but have too many left over. So the following day we'd slice them, and fry until crispy.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Hi Bargain Rzl,
At this very moment I'm enjoying a potato, leek, carrot and onion soup made with (reduced to 30p) Tesco's Jersey Royals - made with the skin on - just fry onions, add carrots, slice potatoes in half and add, add leeks, stock and seasoning + any herbs and bobs your uncle - mmm

Roast them with garlic and herbs.
Par-boil, cool and then shallow fry.
Slice thin and use in a potato bake with bacon and cherry toms.
