Just noticed that Amazon are doing a promotion for the World Cup where you get a FREE gift certificate worth £5 if you spend £20.

For the two weeks between May 23 2006 and June 5 2006, every time you spend £20 or more on purchases from Amazon.co.uk, you will receive a £5 gift certificate by e-mail to spend on further purchases from Amazon.co.uk. Simply use the promotional code which appears on your e-mail gift certificate when you make your next purchase over £20, and £5 will be deducted from your order total at checkout.

I emailed Amazon to ask whether the offer applies to preorders and they said:

In regards to your previous question, in order for a purchase to be eligible for the 5.00 GBP Gift Certificate, the order must complete prior to the deadline. Your order is not paid for until we prepare the item for shipping, as it is our policy to not charge the customer until the item is ready to leave our Fulfillment Centre.

So I presume that's a no, unless the preordered item is out soon.

Hmm, it's not very clear when they email the voucher. The T&Cs say "Amazon.co.uk will send your gift certificate by e-mail no later than June 9."

Got mine and tried it on current products, preorders that would be sent before the promo ended and preorders that are released after promo ends - the code did not work in every case....not impressed!
