I have never heard of it, but you can use normal bar soap, grated into hot water, with a spoonful of washing soda and an (optional) spoonful of borax. Or you can put the dry grated soap and the other ingredients into a washball straight into the drum. The measurements do not need to be exact. Use a bit of vinegar in the rinse aid compartment.

I bought some in a supermarket when I was visiting the US last year to make washing gloop.
It is like the household soap that I can remember my mum using on dirty shirt collars.
It has a bit of a carbolic sniff about it...not strong.

I usually use whatever soap is on offer and I didn't notice any difference.

I've never seen Fels-Naptha soap in the shops.

What about making it with Fairy household/laundry soap? I'm sure that's probably very similar and you can get that from most supermarkets.

I use Smart Price soap at 13p for 3 bars - works fine :)

Sorry, never heard of this; can you explain what it is, please

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll move it to the I wanna board to see if the experts there can help you ;)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

They don't sell it in this country but Fairy soap works just as well (or any plain white soap, tbh). It's about the same as Sunlight soap but I don't think you can still get that, can you!

You can, but it's expensive £3 for P+P too!

http://www.carbolicsoap.com/sunlight-soap-2-x-130g-p-1008.html

I wouldn't buy it from there, but if I was looking for it I would take the site as a sign they still make it and it may be found somewhere cheaper.
• I have made the gloop with white soap I am off to do my first load let you know how it goes
