Amending tax return and repayment now due-when?

I have just submitted an amendment due to tax relief on pension for 2007/08 and wondered if I will automatically receive this money back?
I had originally owed tax at the end of the period (an amount of £1500) which I paid and now this has been reduced down to £800 - Can I expect a repayment sometime soon (they have my bank a/c details), or should I make a phone call to my tax office tomorrow morning?
I should also add that I have already spoken with my tax office and they advised that they quickest way of doing it was to do this online amendment.

If you have submitted online then they should now have the amendment. To ensure that they issue any repayment due give them a call and see if it has been issued to you or if it's not been issued then ask it to be. If you submitted an amendment by post then you will probably have to wait a couple of weeks (if not months at the rate HMRC go through written post) before HMRC make the amendment.0

I generally find that when you make an amendment which results in a refund being due you have to 'claim' this. I think the Revenue system updates overnight so if you submitted the Return today you could call them tomorrow to check.0
