Central Debt Enforcement Agency CDEA Worthing

Options
Hi
I was trying to find out some more info on this company when i came across this site

I had an outstanding overdraft with HSBC made up mainly from bank charges, but before i could argue the toss with them about being unfairly charged they told me not to worry as it was settled.

I then recieved a letter from the above demanding payment within 7 days, i telephoned them and a chap confirmed that they had indeed bought the debt from HSBC.

I was livid that someone has the cheek to try and profit from my debt, so have done nothing for several months but they keep writing giving me a final opportunity to pay up or else, but else never happens.

Any info on this company or indeed the legality of this method would be greaty appreciated.

Hi - be careful as this could have already had a massive impact on your credit report(s) - the bank probably said somewhere in their 'small print' that they could assign debts to a third party for recovery and if the company they have chosen is now chasing you for payment (and have been for months) I don't know if there's much you can do apart from pay up quick - maybe someone else on MSE can shed more light.

    Good luck either way.

You need to dispute the debt with the original creditor (HSBC) and try to get the charges refunded. If you tell the DCA the debt is disputed they should send it back to HSBC. You need to do all this in writing and send it recorded delivery. HSBC will try to tell you the debt is no longer theirs. Don't take that as an answer. Just keep plugging away at them for the charges back and eventually they must listen.

You need to do all that now.
