Washing a d/c only jacket

Just a bit of advice please for any of you laundry experts!

I have a d/c only jacket which is white and rather grubby, its 97% cotton 3% elastine with 100% viscose lining.

Would this be ok to put in the wm on say a short 30c wash or should i really take it to d/c?

Thank you!

I would have a go at washing the coat rather than taking it to the dry cleaners.

If the jacket has a zip, do it up then turn the jacket inside out & wash on the 'silk wash' on your machine at 30 degrees.
When the wash cycle has finished give it a low speed spin to remove excess water (the 'silk wash' on my machine only drains the load & doesn't spin it) & then put it to dry on a clothes rack.

Looking at the fibre content you have listed this should be fine.

the fibre content is fine for washing - the trouble may be with the construction - while the outer shell is cotton/elastane the inner is viscose. unless your machine washes very gently this material can shrink a bit more than the outer shell. usually it irons well and goes back into place - but as its a lining ironing will be tricky! an alternative method to washing or taking to dry cleaners is dry cleaning at home. will do a search later for you but there is a product which allows you to dry clean at home using your tumble dryer on a cool setting. other wise i would carefully hand wash in the bath to minimise creasing. best of luck - bbl with hopefully name of product which i am sure i have seen in asda.

right - after a quick search - apparently betterware and lakeland do drycleaning at home products. there is also one called svit but am not sure how available it is. would do a proper search on net if i were you hun. there are products out there - its just finding them!

another tip for the op - i remember my aunt doing this. she had a sheepskin jacket which was really grubby around collar and cuff - she sprinkled talcum powder on it then banged it off. it looked great and smelled great! perhaps your jacket may only need this treatment?
