Potato Hamper

Hello - looking for some input as thinking of doing a Potato Hamper for DH - he is mad on mash. We have agreed not to spend a lot this year so this will be his whole present. I'd like to hear what you think and if you have any other ideas???
Potato Ricer
Tater Mitts (they help peel pots without a peeler)
Potato bag (that keeps 'em fresh)
Potato gro bag/seed potatoes (we've always wanted to try and grow some but I'm not sure if I'd be able to get the seeds pots at that time of year???)
Book - 101 ways with potatoes or similar
A new collapsable collander - he's always wanted one (sad I know :-)
Spud Gun - LOL
A selection of potato chips/crisps.
A selection of potato 'condiments' (packet mixes etc)
Mr potato head (to play with DD)
Any other thoughts I'd be so glad to hear them - and likewise if any advice on the growing of potatoes!!!
Plus I am quite crafty so if anyone has any bright ideas on presentation or handmade items that would be great.
Many thanks
Sx

Hawkins bazaar sell chocolate that look like mini potatoes, they even come in a potato sack!
I think they are really good and real looking
, I brought some for my dad the year before last. I'm getting him the mushroom ones this year to go with a "mushroom hamper" I'm struggling to put together.
I shall be watching your thread to see if you have ideas I can use :rolleyes:0 -
wendywitch, have you got a 'shroom groom' for your hamper? They're a little bristly brush used to brush dirt of mushrooms, seen them in Lakeland

What a brilliant idea...........we always have potatos in one form or another and grow out own in containers.
I did treat OH to a set of three sacks plus seed potatos for his birthday in March but they're weren't as successful as the potato barrel I'd bought him a few years earlier so maybe a potato barrel might be a better option for you ? Just my opinion anyway.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Can you knit? Could dress a few of them up!0

prob not get seed potatoes now but you could get a £5 voucher from a local garden centre and make a card to put it in. you could make a potato growing kit - some 99p buckets from b and q, some compost and tghe voucher. put 2 seed pots in each bucket when the time comes for planting!
what about a masher, morrisons do lovely instant flavoured mash, wonder if you could find retro smash stuff on ebay
what about finding the smash advert on youtube and downloading it on to dvd!!!?

There are seed potatoes listed on ebay, just make sure you keep them somewhere cool and dark and make up the hamper last minute. There is also potato fertiliser listed.
If you have a garden center near you, see if you can get a cheap wooden seed tray, you could use this as the basis for your hamper.
I got some half size hessian sacks for storage from ebay last month for 99p which are really good. If you want ill try and find a link to the seller that I got them from.

I'm glad you all think it's a good idea as I was starting to doubt it...I'm definately going ahead with it now!

It's a great idea!
Could you get a hessian sack of some sort to put the stuff in, or a veg basket? maybe padded out with straw.
I can get ricers and the potato sacks quite cheap so if you want a discount code just let me know
(I presume i'm not allowed to post links?) 0
