Just thought i'd share my story with you and will be looking for some advice over the next few months in the hope of clearing up my credit file...
Had several debts and large bills so had no alternative to go bankcrupt with very informative advice from the CCCS.
Included old loan and overdrafts etc, bills, council Tax etc total was almost £15k no house no loss
Was declared bankcrupt in March and was discharged last month....quick and simple bit nervous on the day but now discharged and rebuilding my life after it all.
Now as for building my credit first steps i took were...
1. Used my partners account for afew months to sort things out and allow things to settle
2. Having now discharged I open a Halifax savings account (not visa) got a cashpoint card and the account does everything else (opened online aswell)
3.Applied and got approved for Vanquis Credit card now using and clearing immediatly to help build credit
4.Discovered on my credit file Llloyds hadnt shut my old account so went to see bank(had no debt with llyods)......AMAZED they allowed me to keep account open so now have my new Debit card from them and my old all singing all dancing bank account!!
life afterwards is all good no stress and now looking to increse my credit score

Glad your on the road to recovery, but do be very very careful with Vanquis, their credit card was one of the key factors in my friend going bankrupt due to high charges and general disregards to ethics or morals.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0

I had a vanquis credit card offer through the door (bankrupt hmm) JD Williams put my name forward apparently (one of my creditors hmmm) who knew I was struggling. I looked at the APR they offered 39.9%. A obvious attempt at offering a person who is struggling more credit at a pathetic interest rate. Eyes wide open now0
