Existing mortgages receive non-advised service anyway so i'm sure it will be ok dunstonh
anyhow - if you visit the branch they will not be able to help themselves. They can only see 18 months worth of history on a mortgage. They will need to contact the business centre - who even then will probabaly have to order account reports from the archive.
I would say to get more action and information from halifax quicker (as not always some of their fault) - to report this to Customer Relations.
The financial adviser doesn't seem to know all the facts though if one minute they said it doesn;t need to be paid and the next it does.
I think you'll need to get to the bottom of this - my concern though is that every year a statement would have been received?
Good Luck0 -
I would endorse the last note. The quickest way to get a major problem like this sorted in the shortest time with the Halifax is to go down the complaints route. The admin centre should be able to do a reconstruction of the mortgage account from the outset and obtain the original paper file to see what sort of mortgage was agreed.0

Broadly agree with that. And that in recent years the Halifax have been very good at imaging / indexing all their paper.lil wrote:The admin centre should be able to do a reconstruction of the mortgage account from the outset and obtain the original paper file to see what sort of mortgage was agreed.
But I'm nevertheless dubious about the above. I had a problem with Halifax arising from a Mtge initiated in the early '90s (much later than the OP). And eventually had to take my original Mtge offer in to persuade them that endowment policies they were claiming entitlement to on maturity - had never been assigned to them. They conceded and admitted they had no papers and were assuming assignment had been their inviolable policy at the time.
Hence why it is vital the OP track down original Mtge papers - and hopefully something relating to endowments. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

I must say I find this pretty amazing. Is it common for all the lenders to behave like this?
If so heaven help the OP.Let this be a lesson to everyone to always keep all your original documents..
The idea that banks can just make things up is quite alarming. :eek:Trying to keep it simple...0
