                    Hi,
I just wanted to give a big thank you to everybody who has given me advice and support during the past few months, both before and after my bankruptcy. There is no way that I would have managed to cope to the extent that I have, without the wealth of information and non-judgmental support and advice that has bene forthcoming.
I went bankrupt in March 2009, after eight years of struggling to repay the debts that I had accrued. I was surfing the net during my lunch hour at work last week and by chance, checked the Insolvency Register. I was amazed to discover that I received an early discharge in September!! This was confirmed the following day by a letter from the RTLU.
It's a far cry from March, when discharge was a distant thought. I was convinced that I was going to get a BRU/BRO, as some of the debt had been accrued through spreadbetting on the stockmarket. At the time, a lot of people were suggesting that gambling usually resulted in a BRO/BRU.
I don't know whether I was just lucky or whether ORs are becoming more flexible. I was completely honest with the OR from day one and did keep in regular contact, in respect of changes in income, for example, so maybe this helped.
Whatever the reason, it's an incredible feeling psychologically. I've still got an IPA for another two and a half years, so I'm not completely free yet but I do feel like the worst is over. I've also discovered that Lloyds TSB didn't close my current account, despite having been informed by both the OR and me that I was bankrupt. I paid in £50 earlier in the week and used the full VISA debit card for pay at the pump, so feel like I'm back in the 'normal' world again.
Once again, thanks to everybody and I hope that my experience gives some hope to one or two others, who are worried about getting a BRO.

congratulations on the discharge (i do feel kinda strange congratulating anyone on that!)
Be aware that the bank account may have not been dealt with yet by lloyds, if of course it is a full current account they still could close it down.
But I wish you all the best in the future.0

( I do agree with NM though about the bank account...it may be something as simple as a !!!! up with lloyds..wouldnt want to see you with no account if they decided to close it)We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

Cheers, everybody. Thanks for the advice about the Lloyds account. I've got my Co-op accounts for everyday use, which I will carry on using. However, I have been caught a couple of times, trying to buy petrol at Asda and Tesco, when only 'pay at the pump' was available, so the real Visa debit card will act as a back up. I was going to buy one of those prepay credit cards for the same purpose but can now hold off until such time as Lloyds designate me as an 'untouchable'.
In terms of Lloyds, I can only assume that because I didn't owe them anything and never caused them any problems, they couldn't be bothered to close the account. Or, who knows, maybe they think I'm a decent prospect for the future! No wonder, they had to go cap in hand to the Government.0
