HELP! Income Tax

Hi, my jaw just dropped to the floor when I opened my post.

I was a childminder from January till July. I earned £309 in 7 months.

I went bankrupt in August

I have just opened a letter from HRMC stating I now owe them £62 as my income Tax is due.

I no longer have an income and are being supported by DH who is also bankrupt now and we have no IPA to pay for as every penny is accounted for. I cannot pay this £62, I just can't.

Is there anyway it can be included into my bankruptcy because this 'debt' was incurred before I went bankrupt or is it because I have received the calculation after br that I have to pay this back. I didn't put any money aside for tax payments for 2 reasons, 1 we needed every penny we could get to live and 2 I was told y my trainers at the childminding course that low earners don't have to pay income tax.

Very scared, out of my depth and don't know how to pay this money. Any idea what I can do?

Send to your OR to include in BR. It pre-dates your BR so will be included.

Thank you so much! A relief :)
  • Pay your Tax, you should have done so when you were supposedly self employed!

Ah shut up. I never in the world thought I was going to go BR for christs sakes, we're talking earnings of £309 in 7 months. That's a nice wage of £44 a month so yes I should have been putting my £8.80 away to pay it but unfortunately I had masses of debt and two children to feed.

You know nothing about me you silly little person. Had a good kick out of me yeah. I have nothing now, sleeping on an airbed. Oh, I should really get strung up for not having £62 to give to the tax man. You're pathetic!

  • you wouldnt have had to pay income tax on that earnings anyway between april and july.. from jan to april would depend if you had already used up your tax allowance.

MicheH, please don't rise to such insensitive comments. You don't have to justify yourself. Just get advice from the OR and I am sure it will be sorted out. Have you joined yor local freecycle group to see if you can get a bedframe? You could put your airbed on it for now, and at least it would feel more like a real bed until you can buy a mattress in the future?

Hi Darnit, i know I shouldn't react and i'm learning not too, not quite there yet!

Yeah, i'm on freecycle or freegle they're calling it where I am now, got my beady eye on it and requested a frame, no luck yet though

That's great MicheH, at least you are dealing with it right. It is horrible and certainly not a simple "quick fix" for us, as some people seem to view bancruptcy. I jus't cant seem to stop crying all the time, it is increasingly hard to keep going to work the way I feel, and I am overreacting to just about everything. So it isn't unusual.

I wish I could take my own advice sometimes:o, but I know I am depressed and stressed, but I won't give in and go off sick, I still want some option of promotion prospects in the future when I dig myself out of this deep hole of despair!

    Chin up eh?

:rotfl:Miche, you know you ought to have paid your tax you know, Or else the tax fairy will come along and send you to hell. Just because you have lost some weight by walking so many miles, don't think you can throw the rest of it around this board.

earning £6million as a childminder is simply no excuse:rotfl:
