I feel like ~@$*

I am working so hard to pay off our debts and thought I was doing so well - then we get an electricity bill showing a massive increase in payments....
Just when I was starting to feel more positive about our money and I am back to where I started.

I know why the bill is higher ( I only moved into my house a year ago and I didn't realise an emersion heater was mega expensive  also we have storage heaters and this bill has all our winter use on it so its really high)
and I am sure they will accept reduced payments if I need to. But that isn't the point. Sorry for whinging but I am so fed up!

there got it off my chest - dont feel better yet though

Well you said this is winter use, so at least you know the next one will be lower, and you know how much to put aside for the next winterbill.

It's frustrating when you think you're on top of it, and something hits you in the face with another bill, but look at it thins way, you've managed to shave a year off your DFD already, so you're doing a great job.

Have a cup of tea and watch a funny film. Works for me!
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

((((((hugs)))))) i know how those big utility bills can make you feel. but regardless of that, you are still on the way to paying off your debts. so you're still on the right track as far as i'm concerned.

keep at it. turn the bill over and don't look at it for a while. go make yourself a nice £0 snack from something in your cupboard and keep breathing.

    feel better.:grouphug:

I have a constant row (well, more of a row-ette_ with my wife about the immersion heater. She thinks it's more cost effective to leave it on for long periods (pretty much constantly!), whereas I think you should only put it on an hour or two before you need it.

Her argument is that there's a large amount of water in there, and heating it up from scratch takes a huge amount of energy whereas keeping it hot all of the time doesn't use as much. I can see her point of view, but in my mind, I see it the other way.

You wouldn't keep the kettle boiling 24 hours a day just on the off chance you fancied a cup of tea at some point, would you?

A friend has just found out her immersion heater has been on for five years! Ever since she moved into her house!!

I know what you mean about electricity bills; I changed suppliers and started off paying bills of £65 rather than £75 but these have now gone up to £120 as I am paying off arrears where they undercharged me!

Two steps forward and one step back! Just keep counting the steps forward

Our gas bill has gone throught the roof over the winter months so i know how you feel, it is hard when you have worked hard and then suddenly something puts a dent in that, but that is always going to happen, unfortunately. So now you have it off your chest and are hopefully relaxing with a cuppa, try and find the positive in it. First you now have some idea how much winter heating will cost and you can take steps to deal with this and prepare for it, second you can also look into ways to reducing next winters bill.

Lets hope there is a long summer:D

when i moved into my property it had an immersion heater (ive never had one before) it had a faulty switch before xmas and the plumber came round to fix it, as it was electrical said i would need an electrician....it was just before xmas so i had to wait 2 weeks for someone to come out....the plumber said he would get it started for me so i could have hot water but just to leave it on.......i questioned the cost and he said it costs pence to run it and makes no difference.......so i left it on and even when i got it fixed used to leave it on.............well that was xmas 2004 and im still paying for the bill now!!!!!...........who invented stupid immersion heaters......i want my hot water from the boiler back:-(
