Ideas to jazz up a pillar candle for a present?

hello

I have 5 big chunky pillar candles in a dusky medium blue / grey colour.

I thought i would give them to family members for Christmas as part of their present but wondered what i could do to "jazz them up a bit?

At the moment they are in a cello wrap tied with string (thats how they came) but i can take them out and re wrap with cello or something else.

Any ideas would be great :T

  • A nice christmassy ribbon around them?
a sprig of hollie & berries attached to the string?

I don't know if this would be of interest:

acrylic paint (you say the candles are dusky blue so maybe in silver snowflake patterns)

or if you just want to wrap them nicely, maybe this link wrapping with a poinsettia(sp?) leaf (or similar) and tying with twine.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Docrafts are now selling packs of candle transfers, these... http://www.theglitterpot.co.uk/Scripts/prodList.asp

Some nice festive ribbon would look nice or tied with raffia type stuff for a rustic feel.

  • Hi, I don't know how "crafty" you are but you could stick on some gems. These can be bought from many cheapy outlets as kids' craft items. But they look effective - experiment with different designs by laying on paper before transferring to the candle. Can be time consuming though!

    Have fun...
  • Wow thank you all. I think i will try every tip. I have 5 candles and can get more.

Thank you all really appreciate the help.

  • its easy to do your own transfers onto candles if you have a heat gun or a hairdyer?
cant remember exactly what to do as it was a while ago i did this, but i got the idea so if u do a search...
    what i remember doing is,;
stamp a design onto some crepe paper
place the crepe paper over the candle tightly
heat with the heat gun/hairdryer until teh wax starts to soften
    remove from heat source
    carefully remove crepe paper
    leave to cool

If they are the kind youre wanting them to keep why not decorate them with some of the fancy jewell brads that are out there - poke a little hole in the candle first with a needle then pop in the brad. You would do brads and ribbon or something and just put a little note saying if the candle is to be used its taken apart first :)

This is what I tend to do, have had some loevly effects from it!
I use tissue paper though, and also use wax paper so if I heat it to long, it helps with keeping the shape of the candle (Aswell as not getting to messy!). Then attach some ribbon and glitter and pop into cellophane.
So much for 'Money Saving' ;)

You can use pressed flowers or anything else that is thin and flat to decorate. Put a metal spoon in a cup of boiling water, once the spoon has heated up rub the back of the spoon to melt a section of wax on the candle where you want to place your flower. Then carefuly press the flower onto the candle, holding it in place for a minute till the wax dries again.
