Which Hoover??

Hi everyone...

I desperately need a new hoover and so I am going to be very sad and ask for one for Christmas lol!!!

Any suggestions on which one I should ask for?? I have carpets and wooden floors, no pets but myself and my 2 DDs have long hair which gets everywhere:eek: also the quieter the better if at all possible with a hoover lol!

Any suggestions greatfully recieved.

Lyns

I've got a Sebo cylinder cleaner, which was recommended by Good Housekeeping a few years ago. I bought it because a friend had one of their upright ones. I'm very pleased with it - works very well, and not too noisy! (Don't you just hate vacuum cleaners that give you a headache?)

We've just saved up and bought a Miele S7210 (the yellow one) and it's fantastic. It works amazingly well and has brought the pile up on the carpets beautifully. I have long hair too and it's managing with that as well (my last hoover left hairballs everywhere ...) It's not that noisy either, and I'm really pleased with it. It wasn't the cheapest but it does come with the option of paying £30 for a 10 year guarantee, and for that you get a pack of bags (worth £9ish) so I think that's a bit of a bargain overall - I certainly don't plan on buying a new vacuum for ages!
  • I have a Hettie (pink Henry) and it is great for all sorts of floors and has a good set of tools plus you can get the bags for £2.99 for 10 in Wilkinsons - Happy days!
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I've got a funky and expensive Dyson Animal bought a good few years back and a good ole Henry that somebody gave me. Now I live on just one level, I don't even bother with the Dyson (it's rubbish on hard flooring).

I lurve Henry, he doesn't need any bags, but you can if you want, he's cheap and robust and has put up with serious amounts of abuse over the years when we were renovating our house, brick dust, sawdust, plaster etc. and I have two puddy cats who create immense amounts of fluff, dust and dander - he eats through it all. He has a lovely long cord so I can get nearly all the way around the house with just switching sockets twice.

You'll notice most professional cleaners use them, my hubby uses one for work clearing up building sites and it gets slung around in the back of his van. If mine died I would get another one asap.

  • I recently bought an upright bagless vax, gives my shoulder ache and is so noisy. Friend has different model vax, nightmare too. Nightmare as I work odd hours and the neighbours would go mad if I vacum as it is so very loud.

I miss my henry but I'd had him years and he finally gave up. I think in that price bracket(ie dyson v.expensive) they are amazing :)
  • Personally I like an upright (dyson for carpets) and a cylinder(dyson again) for hard floors. I can also recommend the Miele.

having recently had to buy a new hoover, I can thoroughly recommend the Vax Mach 7. It works fab on carpets and hard floors, of which I have both. I also have a dog and cat and it picks up the hairs no problem (I have a large busy household of 2 +4, so you can imagine the state the floors get in). I don't find it too noisy at all, in fact it is quieter than my last model (an electrolux) The guarantee is a bonus too...I've previously gone through a hoover every couple of years!

There are 2 cons to the mach 7 but for they are small ones...Its heavy...VERY heavy...no good if you have to lug it up and down stairs every day (I live in a flat:D) and it has a small dust capacity so it does (for me anyway) need emptied on nearly every use.

I'm sorry I can't recommend Dysons...I've yet to find one that can cope with my floors and family and they are just too expensive.

Good luck on your quest :D
