Help! Girlfriends Birthday!

Hi, long time reader first time poster! I need recommendations for the Saturday, the 3rd of June. My girlfriends birthday is on the 26th of May but because of work commitments we have to wait until that Saturday until we can get away. I want to take her away for the day and stay over the night, anywhere in England is ok as long as it is reachable by train, don't mind coastal resorts, or rural historic cities, or good shopping, I just want to treat her. We're an active couple and enjoy museums, art workshops anything like that, I would just want to surprise her with something out of the ordinary.

Ideally would like suggestions for:

Location
Activities
Hotels/B+B's
Places to eat/Restaurants

I would also like to do all of this as cheap as possible, budget of around £200 for the weekend, and don't mind spending the money, I would just like to get as much out of it for her as I possibly can! ie: less money spent on a hotel, more to spend on a good meal!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!

Don't know if this is any good this time, but Best Western Hotels often have a 'two nights B&B from £95' offer, and I've always been very happy with the places we've stayed that way. Some have golf courses or swimming, most seem to have gyms of some kind. Very friendly welcome, and food good too!

Our last break with them was through KitCash points. Don't know if that's still running.

Another thought: you don't say where you're from, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to travel TOO far for a weekend break, so giving your starting point might be helpful!

Ooh yes very sorry! We're in Lincolnshire, Lincoln itself. Thanks for the best western suggestion, unfortunately as we're both worked like dogs we can't go for two nights!

Right. Can't help you a lot then, it's a loooong way to Bristol just for one night!

But we have had good times staying quite close to where we live, and doing or re-doing the touristy things, either from the comfort of our own home, or from a nearby classy hotel. Open-top bus tour of the city, best restaurants, etc.

Ok if I were you I would go somewhere not too far away from home so that it saves on travel expenses. And for 1 night it is hardly worth traveling too far anyway, so what about going somewhere in your county like Skegness etc. I have found a link for things to do, places to stay, places to eat etc in Lincolnshire. Hope it may be of some help to you.

I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here :)

I can recommend Laterooms.com. We've been with these several times and have yet to stay in a bad one. You can search for the area you want. As suggested before i wouldn't travel too far for one night. Once you know where you are going look on Lastminute.com and see if you can get theatre, concert tickets etc. You can also sometimes get deals on restaurants.

We recently did all this and went to Manchester. Had a fab time. Got last minute tickets for concert one night and comedy club the next plus a cheap meal.

Let us know how you get on. Hope you have a nice time doing whatever you decide.

P.S You could ring the hotel and see if they could arrange flowers/ chocs etc in the room. Us girls like to be pampered, and it would be a nice finishing touch.

Try Stratford on Avon or Oxford or Cambridge - loads of history, easy walking if you get a central hotel
