BR and Receiving money

Hello,

I was discharged 3 weeks ago, i am due to get married next year and my dad want sto donate about £3000 towards the cost of the wedding.

If he gives me this money will the OR try to take it? Am I better off getting him to give my gf the money? We don't have any joint bank accounts.

Thanks....

Just a thought because i know very little about bankruptcy, why doesnt your dad just pay for some of the wedding things directly up to the value of £3k. Then there would be no hassle and no worries.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Surely if you are discharged then it is nothing to do with the OR so you have nothing to worry about. :D

Sorry as an afterthought, if you have an ipa then this could have implications. If this is the case then i think the advice of confused76 and mckneff is the best way to go.
Congrats on the wedding by the way

Yep unless you are subject to an IPA then its no business of the OR's once discharged..IF your still under an IPA then even after discharge you agreed to tell the OR of any changes in financial circumstances within 21 days..I agree with confused.

congrats on the wedding! (i'm still trying to save but small things like a new baby on the way complicate things!)

  • Thanks for the quick replies, we thought about getting him to pay directly for things however my dad lives in saudi arabia so paying for things would be difficult.... hence the full cash amount being transferred. Also we'd have to pay commision on the currency exchange for every item he purchased...

i do have an IPA and I'm under the impression that any monies coming to me are classed as an income and therefore would need to be disclosed to the OR.

Has anyone heard of them allowing for special occasions...

If i call up the OR and ask do you think they would get suspicious? Obviously if they wanted that money and they found out i had had it transferred into my gfs account would they take action?....
  • Just get him to send it to her if she is not BR
