                    hiya
the credit card company called me at work this morning, i told them i couldn't speak to them as i was in work but they were quite insistent even when i said i would call them tonight. i think they only have my work number. what do i do? work will go mad if i start getting bombarded with calls, but i am planning on going br. do i give them my home number and tell them never ever ever to call work again? if things get worse (which they will) will they listen? i've heard it's not a good idea to tell them you're going br?
thanks...

Post them a letter (recorded delivery) stating that they are harassing you by calling you at work and that you will only deal by letter.
There may be a template around here for it.
If anyone asks at work just make something up.
" i have been the victim of ID fraud" is a good one;);)0

that sounds like a really good plan, thanks very much!0

            Try this...

 Dear Sir / Madam,
 Re accounts ref
I am writing to you to inform that I request all communications to me in writing. I do not want any further telephone calls made to me either at my workplace or my home address.
To continue to contact me by telephone after I have requested you not to constitutes harassment. I require all future communications in writing for future Court use. Do not telephone me again – remove any telephone numbers you hold for me from your systems.
Your telephone calls are in breach of the Office of Fair Trading guidelines. If you continue with them after the receipt of this , an official complaint, together with a log recording the times and frequency will be passed both to that office and to Trading Standards, For your information, all telephone calls are taped. (even if you dont own a recording device!)
This type of debt collection method is contrary to the ‘Administration of Justice Act 1970’. In that it is intended to cause alarm and distress to the recipient. Your methods will not be tolerated. A formal complaint to the relevant authorities will be made.
Take further notice that continued telephone calls after receipt of a request not to call may constitute a criminal offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003.
Communicate in writing and ONLY in writing. Your telephone calls will not be answered.
HOWEVER, CALLS WILL TRIGGER COMPLAINTS TO THE REGULATORY BODIES.
I trust I have made myself understood on this matter.
 Yours,

Copier guy is right, or you could just disconnect the call.
I used the 'id fraud' during my BR to explain various things inc. changing bank etc.
 Try sending this letter.

I had the same problem but with my old place of work! they kept hassling my old boss for my new number! IT IS HARASSMENT! and you shouldnt have to put up with it. I think the letter is a great idea and have found the advice given on here great, and from personal experience of said harassment! I personally hung up or ignored the call (got to know the numbers) and called them back when it was convenient for me to talk, and made a point many times of them harassing and calling my old boss. Sadly it fell on def ears and I ended up changing my number, but the main thing is not to worry about it, I made myself very ill stressing about my situation and ended up having a breakdown about it, let me tell you im now about to be discharged from Bankruptcy and wishing id done it sooner. Its not worth your health and sanity, write the letter and in the mean time talk to them on your own terms, and be firm with them if you chose to answer at work. best of luck to you.0

thanks Jessica, it helps to hear how other people have got on. am so glad it has worked out well for you. i'm going part time at work due to ill health (i suffer chronic migraine, sore head most of the time and drag myself through the day). i've been struggling to keep up with payments for the last few years making myself ill and to be honest i've had enough now. decided going part time and bankrupt is the only way to try and get my health back on track. so i really can do without the phone calls at work! will defo try the letter, it sounds good. thanks for replying...0

It really is the best move I made, and if you do decide its right for you I bet you will be like me wishing you had done it sooner. If you are going to go Bankrupt and have decided its your best option then do it sooner rather than later, it can take a while for the OR to write to the creditors though. The good news is that in the mean time you get your Bankruptcy number (you get this the day you go BR), and any company you owe money to as part of your BR when they call you all you do is give them your BR number and the calls stop that day. If the debt has been passed to an agency and they call just give them the number too, it will stop all the calls.
I really wish you well, and Im sorry to hear of your migranes, thats not pleasant I know. Hopefully the stress will go soon 0 0
