can i dye fleece?

I've been given a beautiful baby travel sleeping bag, with a hood and fold over mittens and hols for car seat/buggy straps. it is gorgeous, but very very pink, and the bump has been flashing his bits to anyone who'll scan him and is certainly a boy! I happy to dress him in many colours, just not hot pink - so would like to dye it red maybe.

it's 100% polyester fleece, with a satin ribbon trim. doe anyone have any experience of dying this sort of thing. will fleece take a dye, or is it just a waste of time?

You can dye polyester using a transfer or disperse dye. The problem might be that in order to get the dye to take, you'll have to use a very hot, even boiling, dye bath, which might mean the ribbon trim will shrink. Just speculating here. Two sources are http://www.abigailcrafts.co.uk/omegadyes/

As far as I can make out you can't dye polyester - I did check on the dylon website and they confirm it...

polyester fibres do not absorb dye unless heated to extremely high temperatures. Industrially this is achieved in pressurised containers! These high temperatures cannot be achieved in the home.
