Wrong debt

Hi, I'm seeking advice about wrong person's debt.

We received a letter from debt collecting agency regarding the unpaid debt which we have nothing to do with, and this person has same name as my partner. We obviously dealt with the agency and they explained that even though mistake's been corrected we may get some letters but advised to ignore it.

Then we still received a couple of letters from different companies and contacted them as well.

But this happened around the time when we applied to the new credit card and the application was rejected. never been refused the application so we are wondering that wrong debt affected our credit rating.....
Should I check our credit rating to make sure this mistake did not affect us?
I would like to hear a same experience and how you guys dealt with it.

We once had post coming to our address for a name we had never heard of. At first We thought it was just a clerical error but when a few different letters started to come for the same person I started to panic a bit and got a copy of the credit report for everyone in my address.

When it arrived luckily this guy did not appear but it can be a worry and I would recommend you do something similar.

You will soon notice any accounts that are not yours on it and can get it amended if needs be.
