Help needed please!
We have an DC07 upright, reckon its about 4-5 years old. About a week ago it started making a funny noise, shot out some black stuff and awful smell, was still working though!! Its doing it all the time now and dh has tried all the usual, filters, belts etc. Dyson say its £63 to call out the engineer. Really don't know whether it's worth it or if should just cut our losses and get a new one.
Have seen the Argos voucher for £50 gift voucher when spend over £160 on Dyson but Currys do a good reduction if you trade in your old Dyson.
Am confused! Can't really afford to shell out for a new one but don't want to pay for an engineer that might not be able to fix it!
Any advice much appreciated.

I called the engineer out when the engine burnt out on our DC07 six months ago (bad smell, loud noise etc!). He put a new motor in, replaced the beater brush, replaced all the filters, replaced a hose part that had a crack in it, and then explained that since I had bought it, about 6 years ago, the cyclone unit (the whole barrel bit) had been upgraded. He apologised because he didn't have that part, but ordered it for us - it arrived two days later.
Basically for that £63 he replaced EVERYTHING on the Dyson that was even slightly worn, including bits that seemed perfectly fine to me. The Dyson is as good as new! He explained that he cannot replace the three brush heads that sit on the main body and go on the end of the hose; those are the only parts that are not included in the service, and you have to buy them from the website if you break or lose them.
The only major problem with this Dyson service is that NO-ONE seems to know about it! I told a friend who had thrown her Dyson out because she was sure it was beyond economical repair, and she was gutted. This Dyson service is the hidden gem of the Dyson company.0 -
I can only agree with Haffiana. We thought that our DC01 had reached the end of the line about 4 years ago when I read about the service on this site. It was money well spent and our machine is still going strong.0

I was going to recommend getting it serviced, as mentioned above, they replace everything, my mother in law had hers done about 2 years (if not longer) ago and hers is still perfect. Her service cost about £55 at the time so not suprised the price has gone up a little, but still well worth it.My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0
