well...if you want something to be absolutely waterproof, you are going to have to spend a bit more
for best waterproof/breathable fabrics, look for Goretex or eVent (breathable means he wont get so sweaty wearing it), but for jackets made of these you are looking at around £60 - £250 (depending on where you buy, what style, what make etc). These fabrics have a much higher hydrostatic head than other fabrics which is what makes them so much better.
If this job is a permanent one, it may be worth looking into investing in a high quality jacket such as this.
Alternatively, look for any jacket with taped seams and waterproof or stormproof fabric (NOT weatherproof, showerproof).
I worked in Millets for several years so heres a couple of examples from their website:
Berghaus Goretex - lightweight, v high quality, waterproof, breathable etc, but expensive
clicky
Peter Storm - waterproof, non-breathable, lower quality fabricf, but much cheaper
clicky
You will most likely be able to find similar cheaper on internet if you search for it, but I have work to do right now, sorry!
If you want any advice on jackets you find anywhere, give us a PM and I'll be happy to help

at £8.99 thats flippin good for Regatta! Doesn't give much detail about it, but that should be ok....Regatta aren't in the habit of claiming to be waterproof & breathable when they aren't.
