Ashamed but Thanks

Options
Hi All. I would just like to say thanks to everyone that posts on this forum. I have read most of all the trouble and woes and their replies and you have given me the confidence to do something about my very large debt.

I do mean very large too ashamed to say how much and no one knows anything about it. Over the years I have been able to just about manage with 'paying Peter to pay Paul' but now after my relationship of 22yrs
has come to an end I find myself even deeper in debt with having to pay the usual household bills as well as my credit cards. I don't answer the phone anymore because I know it will just be someone after some money.

I could never understand why I couldnot cope as I have quite a good job (I do have to put a lot of hours in though) and I think this is why I am so ashamed. BUT I have taken the advise that everyone on the forum gives and have a interview with CCCS on tuesday. I just hope they can help and steer me in the right direction.

Could anyone tell me aswell. Who can access my credit reference score? At the moment it is very poor as you can imagine and I am just worried it may affect a job I am applying for.

Unless you are applying for a job in the finance/banking industry or a job which has security vetting it is very rare to be credit checked. If they do credit check you they should tell you they are doing it before hand.
If you tell us what sort of job someone will know for definate.
    Regards

This forum is a fantastic place and yes alot of the stories are quite inspirational, i have found finding a place where others are in the same situation as me has been a god send. It does give you confidence and courage the advice is great and the support is unbelievable.

So well done for taking the step to come and for having the courage to post.

No need to feel ashamed, we are all in different amounts of debt and for a large number of reasons, all that really matters now is that you are trying to tackle it.

    Good luck

welcome. i know exactly the shame. I myself had a bit of debt and quite a good job, so really had no reason to be in such a state. but i bit the bullet and posted my SOA, admitted my debt and my commitment to do something about it. There have been some stern words but there have also been heaploads of encouragement.

so welcome, no need to feel ashamed. you have taken the first steps of coming here and making yourself known. good for you. now lets get on that debt-free road together.

    all the best.

Thanks again to all who have replied. Your all right I felt better after making the call to CCCs for the interview, but as time is getting closer I'm shaking like a leaf just thinking about it. I'd say a stiff drink would be in order if I drank.
I'll let you know how I get on.

HI Basketfull, It's so difficult not to worry even when people tell you not to! I guess you just have to take the step to find out for yourself! You are going in the right direction. There is certainly no need to feel ashamed of your debt. It is only one aspect of your incredibly complex and successful life that can be sorted with hard work and determination. There is so much pressure on everyone these days to "have this and have that" there's no wonder so many people are getting into debt they then struggle with as life goes on. Take Care of yourself and all the best for your interview with CCCS. looneyleo

You have bravely taken the first big step Basketfull. Now all the others that you take will be smaller but in the right direction. CCCS are/will be very helpful and you will feel a lot better for having had your interview. I know it doesn't stop you from shaking like a leaf, but it can only get better from now on.
Everyone on DFW is behindyou - go for it. Good luck.
