I wanna make a couple of girlie pretty gingham aprons this week (just found the fabric during my declutter marathon). I'm fed up with answering the door in old maternity smocks lol! A messy toddler means I'm trying to avoid ruining any more clothes than I have to.
I also have delusions of looking like a domestic goddess instead of a skint drudge :rotfl:
It must have a front bib and a huge front pocket (to store me bottle of stardrops and microfibre cloths lol)
I've just done a google but all I can find are 1/2 aprons or very utilitarian styles and I want something pretty and girly.
does anyone have any good links?

Hi
I love aprons, but mine are very boring! One my sister gave to me, and is beige with flowers, not very pretty, and the other one was £2 from Ikea. Very practical, but not pretty at all!
So seeing your post I thought I would have a look too. I don't think I have found anything very helpful, but here goes anyway...

The next 2 sites have some really pretty very old-fashioned aprons on, but they are all American ones for sale! I know I am not clever enough to make something like that without a pattern. Some of them are a bit too much of a good thing if you know what I mean, but great fun to look at!

Mind you it reminds me of stepford :rotfl:0 -
Okay...can anyone point me in the direction of an apron pattern that will fit a more ....shall we say ample figured
All the ones I've found in shops are not broad enough anywhere!!!! Oh, and I don't do frills
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
My Ikea one would fit! (I should know LOL)
And it doesn't have any frills!
They probably don't have the same one, cos it was a Christmas one (doesn't look "Christmassy") and was in a January sale, hence the price, but last time I was there they had similar size/shape aprons - didn't look at the price, though.0 -
the ebay on is almost perfect but it has no pocket. (luckily as i could see the purse flexing when I looked at it)
think i'll see if i can cut the shape out of newspaper 1st.
I don't wanna spend any money on it as the idea was to use up my gingham fabric, without spending money I don't have.0 -
My Nan used to wear fabolus "house dresses", basically a knee length wrap apron like a modern wrap dress, sleeveless & with a tie at the waist and 2 big comfy looking pockets. It used to go over the top of her dress. Looked very glamerous even when covered in flour. I haven't seen one since, although I don't think it would look nearly so glam over jeans anyway!!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
Not quite what you are looking for but how OS/MSE is this apron made from 2 tea towels?
Nearest I could find is THIS which is child sized but might be adaptable
Likewise This pattern lools like it has the basic features you want and might be relatively easy to scale up and adapt?
This practical half apron with a lot of thought given to the pockets might help if you do your own adaptationMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead
Proud to be a chic shopper
