The thought did occur to me and I specifically asked the question about whetehr cartons would be split to fulfil an order for cars only from the playsets and I was told no, that they wouldn't do that.

I haven't been in Makro in years and my cards have long since lapsed; is this really one 'special' box or is it two items shrink-wrapped together? I am really curious about this, but wondering whether someone is making bundles of the items for Makro rather than them coming from the factory like that.

have just ordered 2 hammie houses for home delivery from argos. website states OOS but tried with cambridge and sheffield postcodes (in the delivery option) and the order has been accepted. hope this is of use. I know store collection is a non starter, but delivery definitely worth a go.

Stores like Makro and costco often have a different offerering on their products and it is part of their uniqueness. So whereas you might be able to buy a car for 19.99 and a hamster for 9.99 - makro might buy them to sell them as a pack for 24.99 (sometimes it is a slightly different packaging sometimes just packed separates together) - they are technically the cheapest place that you can buy that product - that product is not actually available elsewhere in that set up. So when they purchase the product they often intend it to be sold in a particular way.
