I've done this one post DRO/BR whichever one I do (am waiting for credit reports to get final totals before seeing which one I end up having to go for) - could someone give me pointers if I am going wrong anywhere or if there is anything that wouldn't be allowed please.

Is it just you going br/dro or both of you?
Who is the IS, IB, DLA for. You say your husbands is that all of these?
Do you not get housing or council tax benefit as the rent seems very low?
    How old is your child?

    SOA:
Medical do you all get perscriptions free?
Haircuts adults £10, Children £5 each
Other travel - this seems low if you have no car & have to get to doctors etc.

Sorry if these questions seem a bit personal, but it's easier for us to see what's going on before we give any advise. I.E As the DLA is not yours, then you don't have to include it. On your SOA you include ALL your income & your partners CONTRIBUTION to the household, not his entire income. Usually a 50/50 split is acceptable, but he can do a 50/50 on just IB & IS as the DLA is for his needs only.

Do you not claim Carer's Allowance?

On a DRO your surplus has to be £50 or less, can you re-do your SOA following Miss Spooky's comments and post it again?
  • Thanks for the help so far.

miss spooky (love the name btw) - ask away I don't mind at all I need all the help I can get with this.
Council tax we get fully paid, rent is for heating charge that is added on we don't get that covered by housing benefit they only cover the rent portion of it.
We are both considering - his debts being much less than mine but still around 3-4k - mine not sure approx 12-13k unless they have added charges that I don't know about. But it would be me first and then saving the money for him at some point next year.
Contents doesn't include accident - would I be best getting this added - have never thought about putting it on.
Doctors is within walking distance for us - this is mainly for hospital visits and maybe the odd occasion for going into town for shopping.
I cannot claim carers as he only gets low rate care - despite his many health probs (all hoops and no end in sight for getting the dla upped)
DD is 10 - so things will increase next year when she goes up to the next school - uniform and travel.

So if I redo this SOA do I still put the full amounts in for outgoings and just adjust the income part - sorry but head is pretty messed up and it's probably an obvious yes answer isn't it.
  • Is this how it should look? Couldn't see another way of putting it.

Remember though.....if you have medical proof the OR's office will allow higher grocery bills for the gluten free diets (dont whatever you do leave yourself short)

  • thanks phil - we do get most of basic items on prescription (bread, flour). If I add any more on though it would take me into the negative that would show I couldn't afford to live even if I was without debt - so would that prove a problem?

Hmm just had a read through your SOA...see what you mean (its been a bad couple of days oops!)
I did have a small negative when I went BR the judge just asked how i'd cope without credit etc

if you get most things on Px then i'd say leave it as it is then..

  • Thanks for your help Phil - now just need to wait for credit report to turn up so I know which I need to go for - then I'll probably be back with more questions
