had an incident recently with one of the biggest banks atms.didnt give me the £100 pound i asked for ,but took it out of my account.Complained to the bank and basically they said there machine balanced up so I wouldnt get my money, but they would give me £50 as a goodwill gesture.Been with them about 30 yrs and never had a problem,so because of the bad customer service we are now closing both our accounts.Anyone else had a similar thing happen?

ATM's if they malfunction would REVERSE the transaction.
Even ATM died miserably and the reversal failed, it's still logged as such and you'd get your cash.
If the ATM journal balanced with the cash, and there was no auth issues then you're lucky to get £50 good will gesture.
People try this con on all the time (not saying you are)
Was the ATM you used the same as your issuer? or was it from a different bank/supplier/acquirer?0 -
Had a problem with a ATM whereby tried to take £100 out and machine sounded like it was dispensing the money but didn't. Called my bank to make sure it was not deducted out of my account and they confirmed a reverse transaction was logged so no money came out.I hate migraines.0

Indeed, thousands of Reversals every single day, sure at the customer end, one immediately thinks the account has been debited and you have been robbed.
Systems in place obviously cater for failure scenarios for this otherwise there would be mayhem!
ATMs at the end of the day are mechanical devices and do occasionally go awy.
Question though here is the ATM in question.
Some ATM's do not reverse immediately - such as dial up, usually the independent suppliers, and they reverse when they next transact - this in extreme circumstances could be a few days but if you notified your bank they would see this.0 -
The audit roll would show a reversal. It would also show what notes were dispensed from which hopper/cassette within the cashpoint. The cashpoints are also balanced like any till.
So, if the audit roll information shows no issues and the cashpoint balances, then there is no reason for the bank to think that you were giving the incorrect amount.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). and that would be called a Repeat or duplicate.0

I took £40 out of one of those convience machines there are in Bars and it never gave me the money and took £41.75 out of my bank account. It printed out a reciept saying Transaction Declined , but it took the funds anyway. Its now 3 days later and it hasn't been reversed, and the Atm company arn't willing to give it back.0
