My 23 yr old daughter lives in UK (I in France) and has just separated from boyfriend. She has no where to live and cannot afford to pay for a deposit/one months rent outright to find somewhere else. She is in debts up to her eyeballs cos she didn't listen!! and unfortunately I am not in a position to help at all financially. She has tried to apply for a crisis loan but they say she can't have one or not enough for a deposit anyway because she works. She is on minimum wage. Everyone inc ciitizens advice say go to your parents for a loan or get a loan from elsewhere. She can't, she has tried everything and everybody. Has anyone any ideas who could help her.

Distraut mother!!!!!!!!!

  • It sounds like shoe wont get any further credit if she has loads of debt already but if she has not missed payments, etc she may be able to et a high interest loan. Does she has a permanant address in UK?

It sounds like she should come to live with you for a while to sort herself out as she sounds like she could do with some support. If she has no money, unfortunetly, as i have found,it stays like that as the fat cats atthe top dont share it out to paupers.

Id say get her a one way ticket to France!

Unfortunately, she wouldn't do that. She needs her job and if she lived here she wouldn't be able to get one as she can't speak the language and also we are not financially in a position to be able to look after her and ourselves due to be retired. No-one would give her a loan, she has tried and has diabolical credit rating. Its the usual thing of thinking she knows best and wouldn't listen to any advice anybody gave her.

Has she tried looking for a room in a shared house rather than a place on her own? Might not need so much for deposit & rent that way.

Alternatively, has she any good friends that she could maybe shack up with for a little while to allow her time to sort herself out?

  • As above, a shared house might be better. She could also look for a better job or just take on a second job. Unfortunetly,it is a sign of the times that people have to work for not much money.

Maybe she could look for a live-in job then it would kills two birds with one stone!

Some local authorities offer this service, worth asking Citizen's Advice in her area possibly?

Maybe she needs to get herself sorted out, maybe she is still a bit irresponsible.
Must be hard with what some rents are costing folks.
Maybe she should approach her local councillor - although I know there is little hope of getting a local authority house/flat.
    All the best to her.

Pub work with live in accommodation? Speak to CAB and council, if literally being forced on to the street she may find housing association could help house her. There is usually a waiting list and people in more desperate need (abused or with children etc) would get priority though.

Failing that if earning shared accommodation seems ideal, my friend has a room in a house and pays just £35 a week all in ;)

Getting more and more finance/credit in this situation would definitely not be the way to go though in my opinion!

How about friends? Different sofa every month till she saves enough to get a bit more sorted, that might be ideal?

Thanks for all your comments and advise. I will pass this all on to her. She is having another go at the CAB next week so hopefully this time they can help her. Agains thanks for your time.
