My daughter took out a loan with FLM and this month due to loss of job has had trouble in meeting the payment. The Direct Debit was cancelled months ago and it has been paid at Paypoint but on one occasion she paid by Debit Card. This month, they have taken a number of small payments on that debit card [TEXT DELETED]! The money in the account was all she had in the world as she is awaiting benefit etc and now has absolutely nothing left. Can this company do this???? If that is the case, then does this mean that any company you have paid by Debit card can just go into your account and take your money?!!! [TEXT DELETED]. Can anyone advise please?

Ask the bank to cancel the debit card and issue a new one - other companies do this with credit and debit cards, and the only way is to get a new one issued, and the current one cancelled.

Contact one of the free debt agencies for info on harrassment.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • She should cancel the card as there may be something in the Terms and conditions that gives them a continuing authority. Also is FLM a company that asks for a guarantor? If so that person needs to be aware that they will take money from the bank account details given at the time.

Here is a quote from the FAQ on their websiteL-
    1. I have been asked to stand as a Guarantor on a loan, what does that mean?

    • By standing as Guarantor you are agreeing to take responsibility for the loan if the applicant fails to keep to the agreed repayments. If the loan is paid on time you will have to do nothing more than be involved in the application process, however you should not agree to stand as Guarantor unless you are completely comfortable with the idea that you may have to make repayments if the applicant does not.

There are worse stories on the board where someone paid a friends loan installment and when it defaulted the loan company automatically took another 'unauthorised' payment from their card again.

Nasty little trick of business that and should definitely not be allowed but it's probably in the loan companies small print or recorded message when you call up stating that any details used to make a payment can be used again if payment defaults. :(
  • The COOP bank are being less than open

There is usually a charge back procedure and it usually states in a merchant account that a trader CAN NOT store card details to be used in future unless express permission is given at the time the card details are given.

call the bank and tell them you request an immediate charge back to be actioned.

I know someone who is with streamline to process payments and it is specifically stated in their merchant t&c's
  • Thanks for the input everyone. I can't remember what the so called "abuse" text which has been removed was - but I only wrote the truth and did not swear either so I guess FLM had their cage rattled! Great - must keep on, keeping on! :D
