I've been chatting on the web to a 14 year old girl in the States.

It turns out she's an undercover cop.

How cool's that at her age?!

    Heh heh, no thanks.

I'm fortunate to have unlimited internet access at work and the kind of fluctuating workload that allows me to chat online like this during quiet interludes. I honestly wouldn't want to spend my free time hunched over a laptop talking !!!!!! with online randoms! TV and cinema listings, news and sport updates, weather etc all availabe on Teletext.

I don't have a landline, cable/digital or an i:pod thing either. Entirely possible to have a good social life without such items!

But in internet land (aka Facebook), youths can have 252 friends instead of the three they actually have. Does wonders for the ego that. Instead of saying to each other "Coming out to drink a bottle of White Lightning in the cemetary tonight?" it's "You going to be on Facebook tonight?". My parents would have loved that - social life without the actual effort of going out in the rain and them not knowing where I was.

The headlines should have been 'worried parents can not live without internet".

As it happens I got into tinterweb quite young and learned the hard way about chat rooms when an Egyptian 'friend' on Yahoo chat was able to open my CD-Rom drive (as we had in thse days) without any effort on my part. Never ventured in one since as I learned about Trojan horses and that he was NOT actually a magician.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

    weirdo!

i don't really have any other 'tech' stuff apart from laptop, oh, and mobile

would get rid of the mobile before the net i think.... unless i got one of them phones with the net on it :T;)

but agree, would go without all tech and luxuries etc to have a decent life outside of the house :D pub comes first!
