DMP or CCCS???

I have just been through the whole Debt Remedy with CCCS who were really helpful. My choices are either IVA or DMP but I am in the Forces and worried as to whether IVA will 'affect' my career. I read that CCCS have an 'interest' in IVAs and am wondering if anyone can give me totally impartial advice. Please help!!??

You could always try maybe National Debtline or your local cab and see if they agree with what CCCS say. Presumably CCCS don't just say this is what we recommend - they should be able to discuss the pros and cons of each option with you and explain how it will help you?

Do you have anyone you can speak to in confidence in the forces? maybe a union person or somebody who can give some advice on how it would affect your career? are there any welfare support services or anything? maybe try SSAFA or whatever they are called? could they help at all?

There is a confidential support line for debt. But until recently these adverts where quite threatening and tended to push people back into their shell! Great eh

    Hi

Some of the debt charities have started offering IVAs to the small number of people. They did this to ensure that those who took them up were those for whom they are appropriate.

Even if CCCS suggest an IVA is an option, they would never force you to do one. It is your choice.

Why not see what the other debt charities advise?

Or did they start doing it because they realised they were not offering the full spectrum of available debt solutions!? I notice they didn't keep IVAs within their "not for profit" business model, when they did start to provide them!

They did this to ensure that those who took them up were those for whom they are appropriate.
I thought it was the regulatory bodies for IPs and Accountants (of which there are a few) were the ones who made sure that IVAs were only recommended where appropriate. It's a very heavily regulated field you see (even without your CCCS/Guardian angels). Perhaps it's just cynical of me to suggest they started doing IVAs to maintain their mareket share.

Even if CCCS suggest an IVA is an option, they would never force you to do one. It is your choice.
When other companies recommend IVAs, they dont force you to do them either!

  • Does anyone know if DMPs are normally successful in stopping interest being added?
