Notice of Determination help

Hi all, another poster recommended this forum for some advice. Basically an inland revenue guy turned up at my house last week. Long story short I was self-employed for a while but earning nothing due to being a full-time student or working under PAYE.

Anyway my bill went from around £300 to £8500ish in two months due to HRMC panicking and imposing a guesstimate on my bill. I've sorted it out now and am awaiting the review of the tax (which will hopefully bring it down to less that £1k surely!). What I wanted to know is what are my rights with regards to paying this back as I've just started a new job after graduating and am short on immediate funds but have a regular monthly income.

Thanks!

........ If you contact the Revenue and explain the position, I feel sure that they would accept a standing order or the like to assist. They are very helpful and understanding.

You have no rights, but HMRC has the right to demand payment in full, or else take you to court. You can, however, come to a payment agreement with them, but they will expect this debt to be given priority.
