if I finally understand this correctly, my relative should have made a nomination as to who gets the pension benefits/Death in Service and then the money would have been paid out to that person(s) rather than the estate.
However the paper work we have suggests he made no such nomination so given this, and after pming Dunstonh with the relevant details from the scheme rules, it seems we need to question the trustees a tad further.
All we need is answers - if he nominated someone else then that's fine so long as we know (would be very interested to know why though if that is the case!!!) - its just the thought of himing contributing to a pension scheme for as long as he did and then the trustees not, at the very least, returning his personal contributions.2014 Target;

The nomination is just an expression of wish. The trustees will still pay out if no nomination exists. They will just need to be made aware of the situation and usually have forms which need completing which cover this.
The trustees can overule any nomination if they feel the most appropriate person isnt getting it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
