Carrots and spuds!!!!

Hi, today i stopped at a roadside potato man. I bought a huge 25kg sack of red potato's, absolute bargain, they look huge!!!! I spotted that he had sacks (orange nets) of carrots at only £1!!! But they said on the chalk board "Pony's carrots only £1" now has anybody bought these for human consumption or is it just plain gross? Imagine how much money could be saved from using one of these sacks of carrots.

Many thanks in advance.

why not ask the seller why they are not fit for human consumption?

A local farm shop sells these carrots too. As far as I an aware, they are perfectly fit for human consumption, they are just the wrong shape and size for supermarkets.

The best sack of carrots I ever bought was from a farmer who was contracted to grow for a supermarket but they rejected his produce - haven't got a clue on what grounds - literally on the day he was supposed to dig them up. Left him in an absolute mess they did and the carrots were beautiful!

There is nothing wrong with the carrots , just tend to be on the big side

I used to buy these for my horses and then nick the best ones for the house - LOL

Like everyone says nothing wrong with them and were often the nicest tasting carrots we ever had
Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.
  • Pony carrots are either big or not the perfect shape that the supermarkets demand. They're absolutely OK!

And here in the Orchard County, I'm getting big bags of older varieties of apples and pears from a local garden centre where they've kept their traditional orchards. Ungraded sizes, a bit scabby at times, but I'm going through a bag of Lord Lambournes at the moment - £1.50 and they taste wonderful!

yes, same here! they're just odd shapes and sizes.. still yummy though (and you quite often get the advantage of a 'rude-shaped' one to have a giggle at! :D )!
