New uniform woes

Not as bad, but when I joined the company where I do my second, part time job, they only had a mens' size Large polo available for me and as a size 4 female I look like a muppet; it's like a dress if not tucked in but I had to buy a pair of trousers a size too big to be able to tuck the shirt in as there is SO much extra fabric. Plus I had to pay for the polo shirt.0

Just to let you know, my new trousers came today and they fit. Thanks to my lovely supervisor and store manager who intervened. The colleague who told me basically tough is on annual leave this week.
Plus the blouses and skirts arrived for those who needed them. I am allowed to keep my polo shirts."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

I work for a certain budget hotel chain, I have been waiting 3 half months for a new shirt......
I know things are tight but its starting to get wet and cold and my one 2nd hand shirt is starting to go to work damp. Manager BS'ing me or is there really a backlog?:rolleyes:0 -
If I was provided with ill fitting clothes, I would refuse to wear them till they got some that fit.
In the meantime, I would wear something as close as possible to the uniform that was smart and comfortable.
If you wear unsuitable clothing, it could be dangerous or if uncomfortable will make you feel bad.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
Just wear your current uniform until the incompetent buffoons can sort themselves out.
An employer I worked for several years ago decided to send new uniforms to employees' home addresses. There was an instruction issued that we were to start wearing them from a certain date. The trouble was, less than half the employees received their uniforms - some had moved, and the employer had failed to update their records, a lot of employees were actually at work, so couldn't receive them. And being shift workers, those on nights got woken up by the delivery company, so the employer found that that night they got plenty of sick calls from staff claiming they had not had enough sleep to be safe to work due to the fact they had been woken during the day! Needless to say, the employer did not do this again.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
You need to approach your manager and ask informally for a another size of clothing, if this does not work, do it formally, (via letter or email).
If this still does not happen you need to send a note like :
"As you are aware from my conversations with you, and recent communication, I have been provided with a uniform that is too small to wear. I am also aware that wearing this uniform is part of my contract and T&Cs of employment, something I have no issue with.
I asked on numerous occasions for proper fitting uniform and this has not happened.
So, I am in the situation where I do not wear the uniform and be in breach of contract, or wear the uniform and deal with all the comfort and health implications of this.
Since you are unwilling to change the uniform, I am forced to the wear the uniform. This letter is to inform you that
I am giving you formal notice of my plight and giving advance warning of potential problems.
The issues here are
1) I will need a risk assessment completed on being asked to wear a uniform too small
2) Any health issues raised as a result of this uniform will be passed directly to you.
3) I am unable to sit down in the uniform, so please ensure no duties are asked that requires sitting.
Or, you can change my uniform, I require a size xxxxxxxxxx.
Regards.
This needs to be a last resort.

The only time uniform becomes a H&S issue is when its PPE and this clearly isn't.
OP...do you expect your emplyer to buy you new uniform everytime your weight fluctuates slightly? It seems so but that is unreasonable on your part.
3-4lbs isnt alot of weight and certainly wouldnt stop trousers from being comfortable to cannot even sit down. There is more to this. (Laying off the chocolate may even help)0 -

What a silly idea that was. How much extra did that cost? At least my work we used a room to put the uniform bags in alphabetical order and collected it in small groups along with a team leader."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

I remember a company I worked for had issues uniforms and surprise surprise wrong sizes, the amusing thing for me was the number of women who had tops too tight around their bust area. Luckily they wasn't buttoned so no gaping holes for them. It partly got resolved by people swapping tops with each other and partly later on the company issuing new uniforms correctly sized. Everyone did wear the uniforms tho whilst this was happening.
Eventually tho they stopped issuing to workers individually and removed all the name tags and put the uniforms in a collective system and when people turned up for work they would collect one to wear in their own size, this proved more efficient.0 -
If most of your colleagues uniforms have been messed up then maybe there is someone you could swap with.
Ok. forget that. Just read the rest of replies and seen when this was first posted0 -
Jim, are you a troll? Its the second thread I have seen where you have given crappy advice.
By saying "dont wear them" the OP could be in breach of contract and mean an instant dismissal.
At least my suggestion meant they were always on the correct side of employment and employment case law.

I suppose if your employer asked you to wear a clowns outfit at work you'd comply!Of course I’m no expert.0
