I am in the market for a new light weight vacuum, at present I have I dyson which I love, but its too heavy to carry up and down stairs. I keep it upstairs as all the rooms up there are carpeted while downstairs we have carpet on the stairs and a large rug in the sitting room, the rest of the floors are either vinyll or laminate.
Any reccy's....cost is an issue, a friend recommended an oreck but they are £300 and do not have 'on board ' tools.

Does it have to be an upright vacuum? I have a Miele cylinder and I love it. It wasn't cheap but it is brilliant at cleaning, has an electric beater to ensure it picks up as well as an upright, has on board tools and is really light.0

I have been looking at the GTech HV01 as due to health problems I am struggling with vacuuming atm. Found this cute website where someone is testing it in place of their Dyson......

Might be worth dropping Fred an email to see how he is getting on - I think it is more suitable for hard floors so not sure it would be any good for my carpets. Like you I also like the Oreck but way too expensive.0 -
My mum's got a lovely Sebo upright, nice and light with onboard tools.... but think they are pricey too
(about £200) Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0
