Best before date is 9 Sept. 2009 and is still unopened and has been in fridge all this time. Is it still OK to eat?

I would, on the basis that it's cured meat, but I would cook it. Don't rely on me though - I'm known for giving myself stomach trouble by eating things I don't want to throw away!0

Best before date rather than use by date suggests it may be ok, however it's almost impossible to give you advice without seeing or tasting the chorizo.
If you open it and it looks ok, then sniff it and if it smells ok then taste a tiny piece. If it tasted ok then I would probably use it...but as I have said nobody online can really give you good advice without seeing it so our opinions won't make any difference. It really is only something you can decide.

I would probably eat it, only two days out,but as the previous post suggest,just cook it through something,just to be safer.0

Most dried sausages such as chorizo will keep for months, just getting a bit harder to slice as they age. The problem with supermarket-bought ones is that they generally come wrapped in plastic, whch can encourage them to sweat, and this can let bad bacteria in. In their "native environment" they would be stored hanging on a string in a range chimney or similar to keep them dry. They often grow a white or even blue mold on the outside, which is completely harmless, and may even protect them. (i.e. penicillin.) You do not normally eat the skin of the sausage anyway, but if it bothers you you can brush it clean with a mushroom brush.
If your chorizo is sticky on the outside or smells bad I would throw it away, but otherwise I would say it is probably fine.0 -

Thanks so much for the replies. I reckoned it would be OK and will just check that it smells OK and that the white fat hasn't gone yellow. I'm not one to believe in sell by dates anyway and the fact that chorizo is cured, normally means it can last for ages and ages. Just wanted others' opinions.0
