Help, i have killed my gas steamer, how do i revive it?

I used my gas stove steamer today but forgot to keep an eye on it and the base has a load of burnt on rubbish after i let the water run dry.

Rather than get another steamer is there anything i can do to revive the burnt one? I have only had it 5 months but i am always using it.

Thank you

Soak it and soak it - I'd start with water, then after half an hour or so, pour it away and replace with either biological washing powder or dishwasher tablet/powder and plenty of warm water. Leave for at least 4 hours, then rinse and inspect the surface. You'll soon be able to see if it's going to be reusable.

  • Thanks MSB.
I will do that and see what happens. I did put cold water in it straight away and have just tiped it out so will now rince and try the bio powder.

  • I have done this loads of times with stainless steel saucepans and they can be saved even when very black. I scrape out as much as possible with a spoon then simmer bio washing powder or a dishwasher tablet and boiling water for a while, then give it another good scrape. Sometimes I need to do this more than once - the last stubborn bits of black usually come off with a good scrub using Astonish paste or similar.
  • Thank you both for the advice on the bio powder, My pan has come up like new.......well very almost :D.

Before MSE i would have gone straight out to by another one thinking it was un-savable:rolleyes:.
