Can you recycle.......?

On Friday we had four new bins delivered by the council. One for recyclables, one for non recyclables and 2 for food waste (a small caddy for indoors and a larger one for outdoors).

Are the food trays you get from Tesco, Sainsburys etc classed as being recyclable? My leaflet says no to yogurt pots but what about the trays?

If your leaflet says no yogurt pots then you probably can't do the trays either... it will probably say you can put in things like drinks bottles, shampoo bottles, cleaning product bottles etc.

There are very few recycling facilities in this country for the thinner/software plastics that yogurt pots and food trays are made out of. However, pestering your council about it (asking them what you can recycle, why you can't recycle the stuff you can't, and when they are going to do something about it) is the best way to change things. You have to be persistent though, as they're very good at ignoring these kinds of questinos!

Although many people do put various plastic trays/films in their bins and believe they're recyclable, I'm not aware of any councils in the UK collecting any plastics other than bottles.
