Where to buy a few Wood Logs for fireplace (just for Decoration)?

Hi,

we have a fireplace which we haven't used yet, and which we most likely won't use anytime soon, as we are expecting a baby in the next few weeks.

Now I would just like to get some proper wooden logs to put into the Fireplace for decoration. Anyone known where I would be able to buy just a few?

All I can find is the kindling wood and the very small cut log parts, but no proper round logs.

Any idea? I am in the Newry area, but regularly up in Belfast as well. So any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Regards,
dsab

Not sure about NI but where I am in mainland, many garages and even B&Q sell them for around £5 for a bag. You could try a local sawmill also
  • Find a local Tree Surgeon and ask him to put aside a few logs which look quite tidy for you to buy off him. Probably only want a few quid.

Someone was asking on my freecycle for timber for a fire in the back garden, i messaged 'cos i've just taken down my old fence but they told me someone else had just taken conifers down and they were going to take those.
If you use Freecycle, try asking there.

    I'll sell you them:

    - £30/metre for Ulster logs
    - £35/metre for Ulster logs with bark
    - £40/metre for Ulster logs with bark and moss
    - £45/metre for Ulster logs with bark, moss and small flowers :rotfl:

    The choice is yours ;)

    ...insects are extra
  • If you are still looking, there is a guy in Banbridge area who sells logs at either £2.50 or £3 a bag (about 12-15 logs per bag). I bought a load last year - so can't remember exact price.

PM me if interested and I will try and dig out the number for him.

    dsab,

If you have a saw and/or car, why not go and get your own?

The forest on the Fathom Line (Omeath Road) has a lot of windfall trees at the moment. There is no issue with you cutting these up (family live there and do it all the time) and taking away. You just can't cut down living trees.

Well worth it as there is quite a nice walk through the forest (you can go right up to the Flagstaff viewpoint if you want) and you get to choose what you think will look nice.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you details of which track to use to enter the forest.
