Brands of herbal supplements

Hello fellow MSers

I need to find some MS herbal supplements for my DD.
This is what I found (looking for St John's Wort, 900-1000mcg potency):

Simply supplements £11.00 (360 tablets)

Lamberts £14.63 (120)

ZipVit £11.49 (360)

Solgar £12.35 (50)

So far she's been using Solgar, because of the reputation.

Any advice of which ones to buy? Should she save money and buy cheap ones?
Or should she go for quality (what's the point of buying cheap herbs that don't work - other than the placebo effect of course...)

  • If they all contain the same active ingredient I doubt the cheaper ones would be less effective. I found some St Johns Wort in Lidl for less that a pound for 30 tablets but my local store doesn't have them in stock at the moment so I got some Lane's Kalms at £4.88 for 200 tablets the other day from Boots which I'm hoping will have the same effect although they don't contain any SJW. The SJW available in the Boots store I tried were much too expensive to consider taking every day

Thank you for the good tip Bitter.
Her GP told her it takes several weeks for SJW to be effective, swapping may not be such a great idea. As you an see there are good bargains online (these have a high level of active ingredient too, I have not see Lidl's one so cannot comment)
  • I think I'm going to order those Simply Suppliment ones you linked up there. They sound like a great bargain, and I think you're right about swapping the medications, it had occurred tome that it might not be such a great idea as well. Thanks for the link!
