I don't think you are actually doing anything for the resident crayfish except contributing to their already alarming decline.

Cool , once I get the licence I will post some links on where to fish . I will be using a trap so I will be able to sort through the offerings.. Good think is I will be able to take it to the sea side and use it to trap crabs and lobsters of they venture in ...

I love foreging , mussels especially.. Cant wait for the licence ...

Well done you - would love to hear more about your methods, locations and experiences as you get going.
I am so ignorant that I didn't even know that you needed a license to catch non-native crayfish as I thought that they were regarded as an invasive pest.
  • Thats fab, ive been thinking about doing this. However looking on various websites it seems that no licences are allocated north of stoke-on-trent. Im in Yorkshire. Good luck with yours however. Very exciting!!

Licences are to ensure you dont dump the signal in other areas . I will let you know as soon as I get all the info

I saw an article on TV a while ago, encouraging people to get a crayfish license to catch american crayfish. Supposedly they are a threat to our native ones. I'd llke to go crayfish fishing, but I'm a wimp and would have to get someine else to boil them!

Good luck, and let us know how you get on. What bait do you plan to use? I've got no idea...

  • I saw something about it on the Saturday Cooking programme with James Martin yesterday and how catching the American crayfish is good as it helps the native ones survive the "invaders from America" They're actually encouraging crayfishing as long as you have the proper licence. They even have some nice recipes on the BBC Saturday Cooking website.

    Cheers
