                    :hello: Hi All!
Just wondering what everyone is doing about hair and makeup on the day - either getting a "professional" in or going to a salon or doing it yourself?

I'll be doing both myself! I love having my hair done - but hairdressers always seem to want to give me 'big hair!' so I'm going to plan a cut and maybe a colour for the Thursday before and do it myself on the day. Same with make up, am happier to do my own, have bought some new mineral make up, so need to have a few practice runs, will maybe go a little stronger on the eyes than normal, but otherwise I like it fairly natural."Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0

I've found a lady (who has my date yay!) who charges £75 for hair and make up on the day. She's charging £20 for daughter and £45 for my Mum (if Mum decides she wants hers done)
I can't do my hair on the day, no way. I'd end up screaming and giving myself a #1 lol
Mum was going to do it, but I don't want her getting stressed over it cos it will make me get stressed, so I decided that a professional lady is the only way to go!
I'll need a trial first obviously, which will be good as I don't know what I'm doing with my hair (up?/tiara?/comb?/veil?/flowers?/down?/half up half down? etc etc)
With make up, I hardly wear any so I'm really looking forward to what ideas she comes up with.
I've seen pics on her site of her work and she has just the look/s I'm looking for!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

im quite lucky that my bridesmaids auntie is a beauty therapist / hairdresser and she was comin to the wedding anyway so she is doing spray tans, make up and hair as a wedding present. if she hadnt have done it, i was doing my make up myself. ive already had it done 2 or 3 times in selfridges and the lady has written down everything she did which i have replicated on myself.
hair wise, not a chance i could do it on my own as the style i want is trickyMarried my amazing hubby on 8th September 2012 :j:j0

Get someone else to do it, its just something else that you don't need to stress about! Unless you are some hair and make-up guru and think you could cope with shaky hands etc I really think it is money well spent for a proffessional finish. I'm getting my bridesmaid to do my makeup (she doesn't know this yet) as she's a make-up guru, but getting a hairdresser to do me hair. I just dread the idea of poking myself in the eye with eyeliner and getting mascara on me dress!I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0

I thought I wanted to do my own hair and make up, until I was bridesmaid for a friend and she had arranged to have both ours done professionally, at her home, and I really liked the results for both of us.
I'm having someone come to do my make up (£65 for both me and my mum, including a trial each the day before and a manicure for my mum) and hair (£110 for both of us including 2 trials for me).
In the end I went for the professional option, both for the results, as I'm not very good with hair or make up, but also for the experience of feeling a bit like a princess for the morning. I'm happy with my choice but I can understand that on a tighter budget it could be considered a luxury expense.0

I've just helped a client dress for her day and she had hairdresser and make-up artist in. I think it's a nice last minute pamper which takes away the stress on your big day.0

            Hi,
Me personally, I would recommend getting someone in to do it. I had 2 ladies come to the house one to do hair and one for make up for me and my mum. It just gave me something less to worry about as I was quite nervous the morning before and it just gave me a chance to relax.
Obviously its down to how you feel personally doing it, I like doing my hair and make up to go out but I like to take my time which I couldnt really do the morning of the wedding.
The lady I arranged the hair and make up through also had beauticians she used so on of thm came to the house the night before and did mine, my mums and my 3 bridesmaids nails, eyebrows and eyelashes which again I loved coz we just stayed in watched a few films and had few drinks

This thread has eally made me think hard about it, but I just cannot justify the cost, I have afro hair and finding someone to do hair and makeup in west yorks at a reasonabl price is gonna be very hard.
my sis had a much bigger budget than me and we did eachthers hair and our own makeup. I think we will just have to practice lots!Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

Getting married at noon so going to the hairdressers in the morning to get hair and nails done, then going back to where I'm staying to do makeup - sounds like a tight schedule but the hairdresser girlies have agreed to come in early to do me if needs be. I'm confident enough doing makeup (there are no mixups a cotton bud dipped in eye makeup remover can't fix) but my hair is... uncooperative to say the least.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Ha. I'm terrible at hair and makeup so if I want to look half decent, I'm getting the spa people at the hotel to do it. Otherwise I'd look like a frizzy clown. How long til pay day? How long til pay day?
