Modern 'Cons'
Comments
-
Almost anything that is advertised on tv. If it needs to be advertised then it isn't something you need.0
-
Almost anything at all that's marked 'New', 'Improved' or 'New AND Improved'!
I've normally found that this is an opportunity to change the packaging, reduce the amount in the box AND raise the price!!!!!0 -
Pink Scrabble and Monopoly -must be the ultimate in cynical marketing.
Probably not what the op means by a 'con' but it's been making my blood boil ever since I saw it :mad:0 -
pentabloodypeptides and any other made up ingredient which makes you feel "worth it"

Just thinking - probably the 'buy one get one free' is a modern con. They often raise the price of the individual unit to fund the 'free' one! - ever thought it odd how BOGOF promotions are usually on an end isle?? - it's so you can't see that the individual prices are higher than other like-for-like products, NOT on offer!
( I once saw where they'd accidently left the 'non-offer' price of a bag of chips on the shelf.. It was £1.29 before, or £1.89 BOGOF!) - obviously still a saving (if you wanted two in the first place) but a proper con!
edit: actually, the 'price per 100ml/grams' is good for this.. look at this figure on BOGOF offers compared to other similar items.. you'll often be quite shocked how much more it is!!
They touched on this in Watchdog the other night if anyone seen it? They had some big exec guy in, and Anne Robinson was throwing different prices at him. They were pointing out how offers and BOGOFS are more often than not a false enocomy. But does everyone have time to work out the price per 100g or per unit? I do, but not everyone else does?!
Example - went to the Mace yesterday. BIG sign 130g Dairy milk 99p. I reached for it, then noticed a multipack of smaller bars. Looked - 313g £1.99, so obviusly the cheaper option per 100G! the smaller bars were 63p per 100g, compared to 99p so almost a third cheaper!? (if my calculations are right?)
Mind you I could have got it cheaper by getting on my bike and cycling to tescos (which I normally would have ) but no one's perfect:o I was tired
A big one mentioned on Watchdog, was them as mentioned - putting the price up - Wine originally £8, now reduced to £5 (but there was a tiny sign saying it was only sold at high price for x amount of days!)
I personally think there are too many baby gadgets . If you were a first time Mum starting out you would naturally buy a all the gadgets you are lead to believe you need, when Im sure in reality you don't need half of themA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Morning Zippy, you're up early today!:p
I second the shampoo thing. Wash and repeat, that's a con to make you use twice as much! Although I have to confess we do have My 1st Monopoly. It's actually very good, and for the younger DS it's just the right length to keep him interested, and as the notes are in smaller denominations, it is good for his mental arithmetice skills.:o Will that get me chucked off this thread? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

Ha ha, all the better for stalking you my dear :rotfl:
No - thats fair enough. Adult and child version IMO is acceptable. It's all the other schmancy versions that fulfil no need apart from being another marketing ploy to make monopoly cool. I was simply listing the different types!A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
