Daughter's new job

My daughter, who's in her early 40s, has just landed herself a new job as PA in a University department. Because of her experience and background she's starting halfway up the salary scale for her grade.

She was made redundant last year from Ofsted. Originally she'd worked for a local authority for 12 years and transferred her pension rights into the Civil Service scheme on joining Ofsted. Alas, the Ofsted job only lasted 2 years. So she has 14 years' pension rights in local authority/Civil Service.

What type of pension scheme is there in a University, especially for administrative staff? Will she be able to transfer her pension rights yet again?

I strongly advised her to opt back into the State scheme when it seemed as if she was going to be doing agency work for a long time. Was that good advice - or not?
