  • just wanted to say thanks for all the great suggestions and also for the reccomendations for the other charities also as I have found a local collector in my immediate area for the link romania appeal so will fill up another box for this too as they are all such worthwhile causes. And now I know of the appeals will be looking out for bargains throughout the year for next years appeals

    Each child at my children's school fills a shoe box every year. It's known as 'Love In A Box' and is run by Mustard Seed Relief Missions.
    The children are encouraged to enclose soap, crayons, a toothbrush, toothpaste, chocolate or soft sweets, a note book etc and put it in a shoes box covered in Christmas paper.

    Here's a link:

    Hi, I do boxes for Feed the Children. I'm still too new to put the link, but they are a .co.uk address. The shoebox page can be found on the index on the left under 'Resources'.

    And I'd agree, £1 shops are the best places to stock up - they're brilliant for things like multi-packs of pens and notebooks.
  • Anyone doing Operation Christmas Child should take a look at some of the things people said on these threads;

    There are a few very worrying things there. I used to do shoeboxes for them but stopped after reading things like this a few years back.

    Are there any totally non-religious charities who do something similar?

  • there's a website which specialises in linking charities with organisations who have stuff to give away.

    i'm so sorry i can't remember its name, maybe something like inkindgiving. anyway, try googling it.
    Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!

    Think Link Romania is still open for shoebox donations until next Friday 6th (but maybe I have misunderstood their site?) as long as you take them along to a collection point - looks like there are loads of collection points available.
  • Hi there,

    my mum works for the local sure start scheme, oral health department, maybe you could contact your local one for some free toothpaste and toothbrushes? they give thousands away so i dont think they will miss a handful.
    Also, I used to work for colgate and i know that they gave donations of toothpaste away all the time so it might be worth asking, their head office is in guildford

  • Just wondering if there is anything for the elderly with dementia in the Kent area. Any thing that can brighten up Christmas, all suggestions welcome. They are all mental health inpatients.
    Any suggestions gratefully recieved. Just trying to do our best on limited resources.

    Thanks, :D
