Help with cooking

I'm doing a recipe which says I've to use creme fraiche into a lamb dish (hot)but I've not got any and the shops are miles away! Can I use milk or single cream instead?

depends what the creme fraiche is there to do.. if its to make it creamy then cream will probably work fine.. whats the worst that can happen.. its not going to be inedible is it?

I'd say cream will work better than milk, or even better, natural yoghurt. Sometimes recipes state creme fraiche because it's there to give a tangy sour taste and sometimes because it doesn't split like cream sometimes does so is more stable to cook with.

I'd say the same. If it's the tangy taste you're after add a tsp of lemon juice to the cream.

Thanks all, Its actually Jamie Oliver's recipe for Turkey & Leek pie, I've made it before and it's ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! Think I'll go with the cream suggestion. Mmmmm can't wait for dinner!
