London- Anyone know where to get cheap, pretty wool?

Options
I live around the Golders Green Area, i'm looking for wool to make scarves and such as was so impressed by my mum packaging her homemade scarves up really nicely it convinced me to give it a go, unfortunately i don't know anywhere around where i am that sells nice, glitzy wool etc for a good price.

Can any knitters out there help?

Many Thanks

It's not in London, but if you don't mind buying through mail order then have a look at Kemps Wool Shop. They do some beautiful wools and it can be really cheap.

My sister buys a lot of her wool on ebay strangely enough. She only chooses makes she knows and very often even with postage it is a fraction of what it would cost on the high Street.

If you can wait till the end of the month you could go to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace. You have to buy a ticket but there's always great offers on very nice wool, among other crafty things. I got some great bargains last year that became socks and scarves for people's Christmas presents.

Ebay is also great and you can often find discontinued wool that's impossible to find elsewhere.

Loop in Islington is a lovely yarn shop that's not exactly cheap but when they have sales there are always some very good offers and some very unusual wools available.

Oh and Hobbycraft/The Range sell a decent range of yarn. I think the nearest Hobbycraft to you is Greenford (not exactly nearby unfortunately) and I know there's a Range in Enfield.

I get my wool mail order too, from here: http://www.knitone.co.uk/

Good prices, good choice of wool and quick delivery too - the longest I've waited for a parcel is 2 days.

  • If there's a Martlets charity shop near you, they do lovely, decent-sized new wool for about £1.20. I depend on them so much!

Ebay is also awesome for getting big bags of assorted wools. Myself and a friend use it a lot for spare bits and bobs for our knitting club.
