cheers rafter....iv never had a credit card before...i dont think i like the concept of a credit card...i just want sum ready monies...where i can pay back about £100 a month over 3-5years...who offers such services to an oul lad with a walking stick?0

Apply for Virgin credit card who may offer you a healthy credit limit on 0% if you tick all their boxes etc then you could do a balance transfer to your current account, buy the tv and computer etc. Then you can pay £100 a month off the balance

Failing that just save up for a few months or buy the computer and tv on o% finance deals through places like pc world and the likes.
Loan companies don't like taking benefits in to consideration as they can be withdrawn at any time without warning

I am quite surprised your bank won't lend. When my mum was alive, she had no problem about getting a loan or a credit card, despite having moved back to the UK from abroad and had hee haw recent credit history.
Do you rent your house, or have you had a chequered credit history?
You need to be careful about applying for more credit as will show up on your credit searches and then you are more likely to be declined. You could try instore finance deals, but their APR is quite high, but if you have a good income and little outgoings, and can pay it off quicker, then the interest may not be so bad.Debts :Paypal £1981.32
Monzo Loan £4278.16
Virgin CC £2137 0% until Dec 23
HSBC £5471.01 0% until Feb 2025
Emergency pot £404.47/2500
1p Savings Challenge £1.45/660
52 week Savings: £22.00/14000 -

i dont really have too many outgoings tbh
any1 else had any similiar problems regarding being on state benefits and being unable to secure a loan with a high-street bank?
cheers guys
my income consist of dla and i/b plus other benefits and i have had a number of personal loans from alliance and leicester even though ive never banked with them0 -
I got loans a few years ago, I'm on SDA (an old version of IB, DLA and IS), but couldn't afford to pay them back, so be careful and do your budget before taking anything on to make sure you can afford them. Before anyone has a go, I have bipolar and didn't really know what I was doing when I took them out - I was having an episode and just wasn't capable of thinking long term. Anyway, I got them with Yorkshire Bank (my own bank), and Egg.
If you've never had a credit card that could be part of your problem, you need to have had credit to have a credit rating, if you see what I mean?Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
which bank are you with - its not HSBC is it? Mum had problems with them refusing her a current account without doing any checks as as far as they were concerned she had 'no income'
My mum is on IB and DLA as well and she had no problems getting a loan through Yorkshire Bank (her old bank) and Lloyds TSB so it definitely is possible.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
